TEACHER SPOTLIGHT
Every week, The Cranberry Eagle will spotlight a local educator, providing a glimpse into what makes them tick. QUESTION: Why did you become a teacher? ANSWER: I love learning and wanted to share that joy with children. My second grade teacher, Miss Thelma Smith, inspired me. She made school a wonderful experience. Each day she greeted every child with a smile and a kind word. She had such an excitement for learning. I always hoped to be just like her! QUESTION: What is one sentence that sums up what you believe is the key to teaching? ANSWER: I believe the key to teaching is respect and relationship building. If a child feels nurtured, cared for and respected, learning follows. A learner is willing to meet any challenge if he knows the teacher will support him until the goal is met. QUESTION: When you’re not teaching, you most likely can be found doing what? ANSWER: When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, flower gardening and spending time with family and friends. QUESTION: What is one thing about you that likely would surprise your students? ANSWER: When I was in third grade, I shook hands with President John F. Kennedy. It was very exciting and I still remember it vividly today!
