NEW CASTLE — Police are looking for a young man who fatally shot a man with a BB gun.
New Castle police Chief Thomas Sansone said 45-year-old Frank Breitenstein, of Volant, died Saturday night when the BB that pierced his chest hit a key artery.
Sansone said Breitenstein was leaving a residence when he saw a younger man with some others who appeared to be shooting the BB gun at nearby houses.
Breitenstein and the shooter exchanged words before the shooting.
Breitenstein chased the shooter for about 100 yards, but stopped when he began coughing up blood. He had friends take him to Jameson Hospital where a coroner said he went into cardiac arrest and bled to death.
MCKEESPORT — A police K-9 bit a 6-year-old girl, her mother and an officer who had stopped to give the girl a ride to school after she missed her bus.Police in McKeesport have not identified any of the participants, but said the officer knows the girl and her mother and was trying to help them Wednesday morning.Police said the dog lunged at the girl, biting her in the abdomen area when the rear door of the police vehicle was opened. The dog then bit the mother's finger and the officer's arm.
PITTSBURGH — Two of three men indicted on federal charges that they burned a cross in the yard of a black teenager have been arraigned and pleaded not guilty.Michael Bealonis and Kenneth Stiffey Jr., of Robinson, and Michael Bracken, of Bolivar, are charged with conspiracy to interfere with the housing rights of another, interfering with the housing rights of another, and using fire in the commission of a felony. The incident occurred in Bolivar in November.Bealonis was arraigned last Thursday. Stiffey and Bracken appeared before a federal judge Wednesday.
BEAVER — Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine who drilled an apparent peephole in a bathroom at a county courthouse. Beaver County Sheriff George David said the peephole was discovered Friday evening.David said an electrical closet used by county maintenance workers.County commissioner Tony Amadio said other bathrooms in the courthouse have been searched but nothing suspicious was found.
