Charles H. Shultz’s excellent letter to the editor of Oct. 12 explicating the overwhelming evidence behind evolution is a refreshing respite. Shultz writes, “Evolution is based on reason and overwhelming evidence,” while alternative explanations are offered in defiance of even the need for evidence. This plethora of scientific evidence in support of evolution is so indisputable that the Vatican accepts it. Speaking on the convergence of evidence in favor of evolution, Pope John Paul II stated, “The convergence, neither sought nor fabricated, of the results of work that was conducted independently is in itself a significant argument in favor of this theory.”
