SUMMIT TWP — An out-of-control pickup truck this afternoon went off Route 422, barreled across a yard, severed a utility pole and slammed into the side of a house in the village of Bonnie Brook.

The collision sent the driver, 37-year-old Douglas F. Janaszek, through the windshield of his Ford F-150 pickup, state police.

Somehow, Janaszek was not seriously injured.

“He was conscious and talking,” said Trooper John Grossi. “He said he hydroplaned and lost control of the vehicle.”

Janaszek was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

“He told me he’ll be all right,” said the man’s stepfather, who lives nearby and showed up after learning of the crash that happened about 12:10 p.m.

Janaszek, who was not wearing a seat belt, wasn’t the only lucky one.

Homeowner Mary Lou Weichey was away and no one else was in the ranch-style house at 426 Route 422, authorities said.

“It was lucky that truck didn’t go through the house,” said Capt. Don McCoy Sr. of the Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Grossi said it appeared speed and wet roads combined to cause the wreck. He said Janaszek faces tickets for driving too fast for conditions and other traffic violations.

Police said the pickup was eastbound between Mitchell Hill and Bonniebrook roads when it went off the south berm.

Grossi said the truck traveled about 200 feet before stopping, only when it hit the house. On its way, it sped across a driveway and sheared off a utility pole carrying power lines.
