Summit school shown on national Fox TV

SUMMIT TWP — Summit Elementary School appeared on the national Fox News Channel Tuesday as the backdrop for the channel’s reports on gun control and on the Butler School Board’s decision to arm school police officers.
FNC’s Carl Cameron, the network’s chief political correspondent, visited Butler County to mark the one-month anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., he said.
Footage on the news channel’s website shows Cameron reporting from Brinker Road with the school in the background.
On Friday photographs of the school accompanied a Washington Post story about the board’s decision. Summit is one of 11 elementary schools in the district.
Immediately following the shootings that claimed a total of 28 lives and again after The Washington Post story, Butler Superintendent Mike Strutt was bombarded with media requests, including from Swedish and German television networks, he said.
“As far as I understand it they (FNC) are not on our property, but are doing occasional remotes on the national broadcast about the gun issue,” said Strutt.
“They have been very good about agreeing not to talk to our staff or guards, or photograph our students at the school,” he said, although a few students do appear in the broadcast.
The news crew also visited Butler High School and came into Butler and interviewed Mayor Maggie Stock in her office.
