As former Republican state representative candidate Gregory S. Walter noted in his March 10 letter to the editor, “Lease, sell Sunnyview,” the county should divest itself of Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

This government enterprise not only requires forced taxpayer subsidization, but falls far outside the purview of government.

Despite the apparent non-controversial nature of government owning a nursing home, the delivery of health care by government — socialized medicine — represents a distortion in the marketplace for health care, a usurpation of what should be a function of private individuals, and a destruction of forcibly confiscated taxpayer wealth.
