PENN TWP — A woman was killed and her young son injured Monday in a violent two-vehicle collision on Route 8, just a mile from their home, authorities said.

Amanda Warren, 27, of Penn Township likely died instantly about 4:20 p.m. when she pulled into the path of a pickup truck.

The truck hit the driver’s side of Warren’s 1997 Chevrolet Lumina.

The woman’s 6-year-old son, a backseat passenger, suffered unknown head injuries, police said. A medical helicopter flew the boy to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

His condition was not known this morning. Authorities said the child was conscious and crying when taken from the crash.

Police said Warren was traveling west on Church Road when she pulled into rush-hour traffic on Route 8. Frank McFeaters, 50, of Center Township was northbound driving a 1997 Dodge Ram and was unable to avoid hitting the car, investigators said.

The truck T-boned the Chevy, crushing the driver’s side of the car and rupturing its fuel tank. Authorities reported a gas leak from the damaged tank.

Warren was pronounced dead at the scene of severe neck and chest injuries, said Butler County Coroner William Young III.

The boy’s injuries could have been much worse if not fatal, police said, if he had not been in the back seat on the right side and in a child safety seat.

McFeaters suffered minor injuries.

Police said no charges would be filed.

Penn Township volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.
