BC3 student among trio killed in accident

SOUTH MAHONING TWP, Indiana County — A Butler Community College student was one of three men killed early Sunday when a pickup rolled over in a pond along McMillen Road, drowning them.

Sean Johnathan Titus, 20, of Kittanning and the other two men were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:52 a.m.

Titus started taking classes at BC3 in August.

According to Indiana state police, Titus, Zane Michael McMillen, 19, and Cody Allen Brink Douglas, 18, all of Kittanning, were traveling up a dirt road to a property on McMillen Road when the Mazda B2300 went up a hill.

The truck crested it and its front end went into the pond sometime after midnight. The vehicle then overturned, trapping the men underwater in the truck's cab.

Police report several friends witnessed the accident and rushed to the pond in a futile attempt to extricate the victims.

Emergency crews were dispatched just before 12:30 a.m.

The bodies were recovered after members of the Plumville Volunteer Fire Department helped pry the truck's doors and windows open.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Indiana County Chief Deputy Coroner Jerry Overman said this morning drowning was the cause of death for all three men.

Overman said toxicology tests will be done to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
