Wife changes plea in husband's shooting

A Butler County woman accused of fatally shooting her husband last fall at the couple’s camp has changed her mind about pleading guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges in the case.

Ruth Maxine Angert, 58, of Clearfield Township pleaded guilty in May to charges of attempted aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter.

State police said Angert shot 68-year-old Larry Angert with his own .38-caliber revolver during an argument Nov. 17 at their camp in Tionesta Township.

The defendant told investigators her husband pushed her to the floor and grabbed her neck. She claimed she grabbed the revolver and that it fired, hitting her husband in the cheek as they struggled for the gun.

The judge allowed her to withdraw her plea.

The judge advised the prosecutor in the case that the prosecutor could refile homicide charges against the defendant.

Angert, who was not present at the hearing, remains in Warren County Jail without bail.
