Knoch stays unbeaten

Brandon Vargo scored five minutes into the second half and the Knoch defense made it stand up as the Knights edged Freeport 1-0 in boys soccer action Thursday afternoon.

The match was mostly contested at the midfield before Vargo was able to score on an assist from Ben Lope.

The win improved Knoch to 4-0 and dropped Freeport to 2-2.

Slippery Rock 3, Sharpsville 2, OT — Sean Freidhof scored in overtime to lift Slippery Rock over Sharpsville on Thursday.

Josh Stutz scored for the Rockets (3-2) in regulation off an assist from Nate Popejoy. Gavin McHattie found the back of the net as well, assisted by Ben Magliocca.

Slippery Rock returns to the pitch Tuesday at Knoch.

First Baptist 4, Bethel Erie 2 — Ryan Hughes scored two goals and added an assist in the win.

Adam Mueller and Trevor Barnhart also scored for First Baptist.

Girls SoccerMarley Gordon scored four goals as Knoch routed Riverside 7-0.Saige Robertson, Olivia Sharbaugh and Abbey Gore also scored for the Knights (2-1, 1-0).Slippery Rock 6, Sharon 0 — Bailey Boyd scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Rockets.Jenny Dudek also scored two goals and added an assist for Slippery Rock (1-0 in the region).Karns City 10, Clarion 0 — Breann Wood and Emily LoPresti notched hat tricks to pace the Gremlins (2-0).Megan McCartney netted a pair of goals, while Brianna Brusamonti and Carlee Boltz scored one apiece.Karns City plays next on Saturday at home against DuBois Central Catholic.
