Carney's 19 kills key Butler volleyball; KC boys soccer dominate C-L, 11-0

Gabriell Carney had 19 kills and three aces as the Butler girls volleyball team downed Fox Chapel 25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-12 Tuesday night.

Erin Hilderbrand added 28 digs and Rachel Rebmann had 26 assists for the Golden Tornado.

A-C Valley 3, Karns City 2 —The Falcons prevailed in five sets by margins of 25-14, 22-25, 20-25, 25-10, 15-13.

Jessica Callender led the way for A-C Valley (8-5) with 20 service points, nine kills and nine digs. Makayli Terwilliger also had a strong match with 15 kills and 10 blocks.

Sadie Longo recorded 20 assists, while Melanie Lewis had 18 assists and 11 digs. Morgan Cratty added nine kills and six blocks, Halee Wetzel notched 17 digs.

A-C Valley won the JV match 25-19, 26-24 with the help of Kiersten Rothen's 11 service points.

Mars 3, Burrell 0 — The Planets (10-5, 8-3) overwhelmed the Bucs by scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-22.

Natalie Grice had 12 assists for Mars, Elise Sheehy six kills and three blocks and Maggie McKernan five digs and four service aces.

Knoch 3, Deer Lakes 0 — The Knights (13-2, 10-1) cruised past the Lancers with a 25-11, 25-10, 25-20 win.

Celina Sanks tallied a team-high nine kills, while Schaely Renfrew added eight. Emily Zilka and Mary Zellhart were both effective serving with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Slippery Rock 3, Sharon 0 — The Rockets swept the Tigers by scores of 25-10, 26-24, 25-13.

Carly Shearer recorded five aces, while Lindsey Lueken had 10 digs for Slippery Rock (6-6).

Boys SoccerSpenser Myers, Tyler Pollock and Noah Pollock scored two goals apiece to pace Karns City in a dominating 11-0 win over Clarion-Limestone.John Garing, Caleb Garing, Derek McElravy, Jace Ebbitt and Ian McElroy also found the back of the net for the Gremlins (11-2).Freeport 3, Burrell 2 — The Yellowjackets (6-11-1) closed the 2013 season with this road win over the Bucs.Senior forward Jim Mansmann scored a pair of goals, including one on a penalty kick, and freshman Isaac Bigenho tallied the game-winner.

Girls SoccerJenny Dudek netted a hat trick and tallied one assist as Slippery Rock blanked Meadville by a 5-0 margin.Molly Joyce scored twice, while Abby Magliocca dished out three assists. Skyler Hinchenberg also distributed an assist for the Rockets (8-6, 8-2).
