Sunnyview union files complaint against county

The labor union representing workers at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday filed an unfair labor practices complaint against Butler County.

The complaint stems from stalled labor negotiations between the SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania union and the county as well as the county’s plan to sell the 200-bed home to a private entity.

The county last week hired the Chicago firm of Marcus & Millichap to market Sunnyview for a minimum bid of $13.2 million.

Sunnyview maintenance worker Terry Penrod, who represents the union, said the marketing of Sunnyview for sale “happened way too fast.”

The complaint lists nearly a dozen charges against the county.

Among those charges, the union claims the county failed to provide the union with requested information about projected cost savings that would result from the county’s proposals, failed to present the union’s proposals to the full board of commissioners, imposed arbitrary limitations on bargaining and refused to bargain with the union, even though the parties were not at an impasse.

While Commissioner Dale Pinkerton had not seen the complaint as of Saturday morning, he did not think it would impact the sale of Sunnyview.
