Furl shines for Mars

Friday night, Connor McGinnis drove in the only run as Mars beat Laurel Highlands 1-0.

Nathan Furl earned the win, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out seven for the Planets.

Mars also played a pair of games Saturday, downing Moniteau, 7-0, and falling to Whitehall, 7-5.

SwimmingGrove City High School was chosen for four and Slippery Rock three first team District 10, Region 3 girls swimming honors.Slippery Rock’s Abigail Parsons was chosen for first team in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. The Eagles 200 medley and 200 free relay of Renee Decker, Kimmi Wendelschaefer, Meghan Terwilliger and Emma Rastatter were named first team.Decker was also chosen in the 50 free, while Wendelschaefer was picked for the 100 breaststroke.The Rockets’ 200 free relay team of Mari Reott, Tabitha Donaldson, Parsons and Lindsey Lueken was chosen for the second team. Terwilliger was picked as second team in the 100 fly.Grove City’s boys had three first team selections.The 200 medley relay team of Austin Wilson, Thomas Somora, Rockwell Pokrant and Devin Reynolds were chosen. Somora, Wilson, Reynolds teamed with Sam Archibald to garner the honors in the 400 relay. Somora earned the nod in the 100 breaststroke. Wilson was named second team for the 100 backstroke.
