Unsung Community Hero nominations sought out

The Southeast Butler County Alliance is seeking nominations for its inaugural Unsung Community Hero awards.

Two nominees will be selected this spring for recognition of their community service or achievement that had a positive impact on people in southeastern Butler County.

Those nominated may have acted alone or volunteered with an organization.

To be eligible for nomination, there must be documentation of an individual exceeding expectations in helping to improve the vitality of the region.

The recipients will be able to direct a $500 grant to an approved nonprofit charity or public organization that was involved with the endeavor through which they received the award.

The alliance, an initiative formed by the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation, will place special value on those who have helped others take personal responsibility for improving the health, wellness and quality of life.

The alliance also will award two $500 educational scholarships to a Freeport High School senior and a Knoch High School student. The awards will focus on the students’ community service.

The Unsung Community Hero and scholarship recipients will be honored at a May 28 lunch at the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation in Natrona Heights.

The alliance’s purpose is to encourage individuals to take personal responsibility for enhancing the quality of life in southeastern Butler County and to recognize those who perform outstanding service, achievement or transformation for those living in the region.

Nomination forms and scholarship applications are available from the Allegheny-Kiski Health Foundation.

Unsung Community Hero nominations may be submitted by anyone familiar with the nominee’s community service. Scholarship applications must be submitted by the students seeking the awards.

Forms and applications may be downloaded off the foundation website at www.akhealth.org. For information, call John Pastorek, president and CEO for the foundation, at 724-294-3157 or e-mail him at jpastorek@akhealth.org.
