Rock baseball team splits with Gannon

The Slippery Rock University baseball team had to settle for another doubleheader split against Gannon Sunday at Jack Critchfield Park.

After losing 11-6 in the opener and winning the nightcap 7-6 on Saturday, The Rock came back Sunday to rally for a win in the first game, 5-4, only to fall in the final game of the home-and-home weekend doubleheader series, 4-3.

Leadoff hitter and shortstop Will Kengor went 5-for-7 with three runs scored, two RBI and two stolen bases in the two games on Sunday.

Kyle Schneider got the Game 1 win on the mound for The Rock (20-10 overall, 9-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West) with a complete-game effort.

He scattered five hits and gave up four runs, two earned.

SRU scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to get the victory, keyed by a fielding error and a RBI single by Jake Nogalo.

SoftballMcKenzie Popatak homered and drove in four runs as The Rock bludgeoned Indiana (Pa.) University 10-2 in the first game of a doubleheader at SRU Sunday afternoon.Slippery Rock (8-11, 4-2) lost the second game, 7-1.Alaynna Beers also had a big game in the Game 1 victory with a home run and three RBI.Emily Lobdell got the win, striking out five in five innings of work.Ashley Samuk hit a solo home run for SRU in the second-game loss.
