10:26 p.m. Monday — A Clay Township man was arrested on felony drug charges after a traffic stop netted police several bags of suspected marijuana.Benjamin J. McCormick, 20, was placed in the Butler County Prison to await arraignment this morning.Police stopped McCormick driving a car on Shore Street that had an expired registration. An officer approached the car and noticed the inspection sticker was expired.McCormick admitted there was no insurance on the car. He also turned over a marijuana pipe to the officer, according to court documents.A later search of the vehicle turned up a backpack containing a scale with residue and five individually-wrapped plastic baggies of suspected marijuana.Additionally, police found another marijuana pipe and a drug kit containing a razor blade and two cut straws containing an unidentified white powder.McCormick is charged with felony and misdemeanor drug possession, and several traffic violations.9:29 a.m. Monday — No one was injured in a hit-and-run accident on Mercer Road near the Mon-D-Aid. Virginia Mangel, 64, of Butler Township told police that a red vehicle, possibly a truck, struck the driver's side mirror of the pickup she was driving. The driver of the unidentified vehicle did not stop.

8:55 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by William Raabe, 53, of Butler struck a deer on Route 442 east between Greenwood Drive and the Lions Road overpass.10:02 p.m. Friday — A 16-year-old Butler girl is accused of hitting a 13-year-old Prospect girl at Skate Castle on New Castle Road. The 13-year-old was not hurt. The older girl was cited for harassment.2:40 p.m. Thursday — Geralyn Phillips, 31, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $66 worth of clothing from the Walmart in Butler Commons. Phillips is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Monday — Police filed drug charges in juvenile court against a 14-year-old boy who is accused of trying to sell prescription pills to other students April 1 at the Grove City Middle School6:04 p.m. Friday — A 13-year-old boy was caught with suspected marijuana after police were called to the Chestnut Street Bridge for a report of a group of four youths spray painting the bridge.Police said they arrested the 13-year-old, who they did not identify. He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana. No recent graffiti was found.Wednesday — Police cited the U.S. Post Office for an unlawful alarm activation. The citation was issued after the post office's fifth false alarm in 12 months.1:06 p.m. April 4 — A black backpack was found at the Grove Manor Nursing Home in the 400 block of North Broad Street. The backpack was found in the outside pavilion.The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-458-7925.

3:20 p.m. Monday — A 17-year-old Karns City boy is accused of causing a disturbance on a school bus in Clay Township. The bus was taking students home from the Clarence Brown School when the teen, who police did not identify, became unruly.The boy “had to be subdued by other students and the bus driver,” according to a police report. He is charged with disorderly conduct.April 7 — Melissa Ann Crawford, 40, of Fairview Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a hit-and-run crash last month in Oakland Township.Police said Crawford was traveling south on Center Drive near Seven Hills Road about 6:50 p.m. March 7 when her car crossed the opposing lane and collided with a northbound vehicle.The other driver, who was not identified, confronted her. When he told her he was calling police, she fled.Troopers on their way to the crash found Crawford standing outside her damaged car. Police said they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from her. She became “very irate and uncooperative” while the officers spoke to her, and she was placed in handcuffs.She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.178 percent, or more than double the state's 0.08 percent legal limit.Crawford is charged with driving under the influence, hit-and-run, driving on the wrong side of the road, failing to yield to oncoming traffic, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving, failing to give information and render aid after an accident and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.
