Butler man accused of slashing tires

CENTER TWP — Police suspect a Butler man was not amused with a group of teenagers in cars playing a game with squirt guns.

Shawn P. Bowers, 38, believed he was nearly run off the road last month by the boys engaged in the “Assassins” game, said Trooper Kenneth Walker.

Bowers let his anger get the better of him, police said, and later slashed the tires on a pair of vehicles at the home of one of the teens in the Willow Run neighborhood in Center Township.

Walker on Tuesday cited Bowers with a summary charge of disorderly conduct.

Police said the trouble began shortly before 10 p.m. March 30 when Bowers by chance crossed paths with the youths driving around in four vehicles playing “Assassins,” which involves stalking and shooting human targets with water pistols.

Bowers blamed the teens for a near collision and followed the vehicles back to a home in Willow Run.

He confronted the fiance of one of the boys’ mothers and apparently voiced his displeasure with the youths’ reckless driving, police said. He then left.

But he wasn’t finished, Walker said of Bowers.

At some point, he allegedly returned to the home and slashed the tires of two vehicles there.

The damage, estimated at $290, was discovered about 5:30 a.m. March 31.
