Wednesday — Police accused Makenzie Jo Maze, 22, of Punta Gorda, Fla., of bouncing a check for $871.92 at A Notary on North Main Street last year. The check, written on a bank account with insufficient funds, was passed April 29, 2013. Maze is charged with bad checks.

Monday — A Marion Township teenager faces felony and other charges stemming from a police chase earlier this month.Police said Matthew R. Beran, 19, refused to stop shortly after 6 p.m. April 5 when officers tried to pull him over on North Main Street Extension for driving a pickup truck with an expired registration.The suspect ignored the police car's emergency lights and siren and continued traveling north to Route 308 in Center Township, throwing out the driver's side window two unknown objects, according to court documents.Police estimated Beran exceeded the speed limit by 10 mph before he pulled over just before Holyoke Road, some 3 miles from where the chase stared.“Beran stated that he never saw or heard the officer (in pursuit),” a police affidavit said. He claimed the objects police saw him throw out his window was gum and a cigarette.The teen is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony. Police also cited him for failing to pull over for an emergency vehicle, driving with expired registration, not wearing a seat belt and littering.Monday — Police charged Justin A. Brady, 30, of Grove City with illegally trying to buy a shotgun from the Dunham's Sports store at Moraine Pointe Plaza.Brady allegedly lied on his application to buy the gun on Nov. 16.In completing a federal form required to buy the 12-gauge shotgun, the defendant wrote that he was not convicted of certain crimes that would prohibit him from having a gun.But when his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, an automated system by which gun dealers can determine if someone can legally buy a firearm in the state, he was denied the purchase due to a 2011 conviction for simple assault, court documents said.Brady is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

Tuesday — Police reported they are investigating a home break-in that occurred last month.The unknown intruder got into the house on the 300 block of North Broad Street about 3 a.m. March 21 but the home's occupant apparently scared him off.The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s with blond hair.

7:26 a.m. Wednesday — At least one person was hurt when a pickup truck driven by Thomas R. Keener, 44, of Portersville and a sport utility vehicle driven by Jamie C. Blando, 31, of Ellwood City collided head-on at Route 488 and Miller Road in Muddy Creek Township.Keener, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Blando refused medical treatment at the scene. Police cited Keener for a stop sign violation.The Portersville Volunteer Fire Company assisted police.Wednesday — Sixty commercial truck batteries worth more than $6,100 were stolen from Truck Mart USA on Route 422 in Franklin Township. The batteries were taken from trucks parked at the business between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday.10:51 a.m. Tuesday — An SUV driven by Lilibeth N. Best, 31, and a car driven by Emily L. Lokhaiser, 24, both of Butler collided at Routes 68 and 38 in Summit Township. Police cited Best for making an improper left turn.Tuesday — A tool worth $1,800 was stolen from the XTO well site on Powder Mill Road in Connoquenessing Township. The Mathey Dearman brand tool is a beveling machine. J Irwin Co. of Bastrop, Texas, owns the tool that was taken between 3 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday.Tuesday — Someone took $85 from an unlocked vehicle in the 1000 block of Madison Avenue in East Butler. The theft happened between 1:30 p.m. Monday and 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.Monday — An unknown identity thief used the personal information of a 51-year-old Slippery Township man to file a federal tax return. Police said the IRS is investigating.his car crashed and rolled over on Route 19 south of Millburn Road in Springfield Township.

8:25 a.m. Friday — An unknown vandal damaged a mailbox at a 50-year-old woman's home in the 2000 block of Currisville Road in Piney Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.
