Fire today destroys barn in Parker

PARKER, Armstrong County — A fire early this morning destroyed an abandoned barn in the city.

The call came in at 12:45 a.m. as both a barn and brush fire, said Rick Amsler, chief of the Parker City Volunteer Fire Company.

Amsler said that it is not certain if the barn on South Division Street was ignited by a brush fire or vice versa.

“That’s kind of undetermined,” Amsler said.

He said the state police fire marshal will investigate. He said the barn had no utilities.

“It didn’t just spontaneously combust,” Amsler said.

He said fire crews initially were concerned that the brush fire would spread to Parker Personal Care, but Amsler said crews were able to contain it. Firefighters were there for two to three hours, he said.

Firefighters from Knox and Seneca initially responded to the fire because Parker firefighters were tied up at a large fire in Eau Claire. Crews from Parker eventually made it to the barn fire, and firefighters from Petrolia and Perry Township, Clarion County, also responded.
