9:14 p.m. Thursday — A suspected drunken man on tracks at the railroad crossing bridge on Kittanning Street forced a train to stop suddenly. In turn, police were called over concern the man had jumped off the bridge.The conductor for the Canadian National Railway told police he was southbound approaching the bridge when he spotted a man on the tracks. The conductor stopped the train as the man walked over to the next set of tracks, knelt down and vomited, according to a police report.A northbound train, meanwhile, approached the bridge and the conductor of the southbound train recounted that it appeared the man was hit by the train or jumped from the bridge.Officers later determined the man had jumped to the east of the tracks and gone down an embankment. Officers tracked the suspect, identified as Michael G. Watt, 37, of Lyndora to a camp site in the Clay Hills area.Watt, who reeked of alcohol, was taken to the police station and placed in a holding cell until he was sober. Police said he is charged with interfering on railroad property, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.Thursday — Police filed criminal and traffic charges against Shane M. Sybert, 25, of Summit Township in connection with an April 9 traffic stop.Officers were already answering a call in the 700 block of Center Avenue about 3 a.m. when they saw the suspect's vehicle approach them and not slow down.The driver was “looking down at his cell phone and not paying attention,” a police report said. An officer said he had to jump out of the way “to avoid being struck.” The report said as the vehicle passed the officers, the driver “never looked up from his cell phone.”Police a short time later stopped the suspect's car. Sybert admitted that he “never seen (the officers) in the road,” the report said.A search of Sybert's car turned up a broken crack pipe in the driver's side door, police said. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and texting while driving.4:29 p.m. Wednesday — Jeffrey W. Nadiak, 26, of Butler was caught with suspected heroin after police pulled his car over in the 100 block of North Main Street. Police said the traffic stop was for Nadiak driving with a suspended license. A later search of the car turned up three small foil packages containing suspected heroin, a police report said.Nadiak is charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving during suspension.

6:11 p.m. Wednesday — Theresa Burd, 31, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $136.54 in merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. Burd is charged with retail theft.7:48 a.m. Wednesday — A tractor-trailer driven by Brian Goldman, 41, of Youngstown, Ohio, rear-ended a vehicle stopped for a red light on Route 8 at Litman Road. Paul Patten, 47, of Butler was the other driver. No injuries were reported.South Butler volunteer firefighters assisted police in cleaning up a large amount of fluid that leaked from the rig, which had to be towed.12:20 a.m. Sunday — Brittney D. Harvey, 24, and James Cress Jr., 27, both of Butler, face misdemeanor drug charges after they were nabbed with contraband at the parking lot of Cav's Place on Bessemer Avenue in Lyndora.Harvey is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Cress is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

12:30 p.m. April 3 — Three juvenile students were caught with unspecified drugs at Grove City High School. The youths, who police did not identify, are charged in juvenile court with possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. One of the students, however, also faces a charge of delivery of a controlled substance, a felony.
