Troubled by Toomey

For the third time in recent months, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey voted to deny crucial unemployment benefits to roughly 2 million Americans including more than 100,000 in his own Pennsylvania.

Last week the Senate finally approved extending unemployment benefits. Toomey opposed.

This is just the latest example of how Sen. Toomey seemingly cares little about Pennsylvanians desperate to find work. He also voted against a bill that could have helped 1 million Pennsylvania veterans receive medical benefits and needed job training.

Millions of jobs have been lost over the past two decades as a result of businesses moving their operations overseas. People aren’t unemployed because they’re lazy; it’s because their jobs have disappeared.

The huge number of dislocated workers has resulted in a shamefully high number of American children living in poverty.

It is a bitter disappointment that Toomey refuses to provide a helping hand to those in great need both nationwide and within Pennsylvania.
