Albert Offstein

I. Albert “Al” Offstein, 94, of Cranberry Township passed away at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at UPMC Passavant in McCandless.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1919, in Butler to the late Jacob Offstein and Sarah (Garber) Offstein.

Mr. Offstein was a graduate of Butler High School. He was a warrant officer junior grade in the U.S. Army, serving in the 563rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion (Mobile) in the European Theater during World War II.

Al was one of the original founders of Furniture Galleries Inc. in 1961, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Congregation B'nai Abraham.

Mr. Offstein is survived by his son, Alan Offstein and his wife, Patricia, of Butler; his two grandsons, Dr. Evan Hayden Offstein of Frostburg, Md., and Jody Bennett Offstein and his wife, Jennifer, of Butler; his four great-grandchildren, Madison, Molly, Maura and Olivia Offstein; and his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice (Bennett) Offstein, who he married on Dec. 11, 1945, and who passed away on Oct. 3, 2013; his two brothers; and his two sisters.

Offstein — Private services for I. Albert “Al” Offstein, who passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, were earlier with Cantor Michal Gray-Schaffer of Congregation B'nai Abraham officiating. Burial took place in the Congregation B'nai Abraham Cemetery.Arrangements were entrusted to the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
