Roberta Selle

Roberta M. Pinkerton Selle, 88, of Mars passed away Wednesday morning at VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born in Mars Sept. 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Oliver C. and Marie Irvine Pinkerton.

Roberta had worked as a payroll clerk, an accountant and as health benefits coordinator for T.E. Hohman in Gibsonia, Cross Fence in North Hills, Pullman Standard in Butler, and Playtime Equipment in Mars.

Active in the community, Roberta helped start the Mars Junior Women's Club, organized getting street signs installed in Mars and served on the committee of the Mars Community Recreational Association, which started the Mars Community Pool. She also chaired and organized the first blood drive in Mars.

She was a lifelong member of Mars United Methodist Church, now Dutilh, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Roberta enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, dancing, playing cards with friends and following all the Pittsburgh sports teams. Above all, she most loved being with her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her three sons, David E. and Rodney L. Selle, both of Mars, and Scott W. Selle and his wife, Melina, of West Sunbury; her family friend, Richard E. “Dick” Bell of Mars; her grandchildren, Danielle M. Selle-Schill and her husband, Nathan, of Chicago, and Robert W. Selle of West Sunbury; and her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Selle, who she married June 27, 1953, and who died Aug. 20, 2004, and by her sister, Floridabell Pinkerton, and her brothers, Alden and Orion Pinkerton.

Pinkerton Selle, who passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, will be received at McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Dutilh United Methodist Church, Mars campus, Pittsburgh Street, Mars.
