I have some questions about the financial problems facing the city’s Kelly Automotive baseball park.

Why was an entirely new facility built instead of following the board of trustees’ original plan to refurbish and upgrade the old Pullman Park?

Were feasibility and financial sustainability studies done before money was committed to the construction of the new facility? If so, what went wrong?

What was the basis for projecting the benefits the new facility would bring to the city? Have any of these benefits been realized? If so, do they even partially offset the financial liability that city taxpayers may soon face? Or was it just wishful thinking by the governmental and quasi-governmental officials involved?

Will this “Build it and they will come” way of thinking work any better after the Center City project than it did with the baseball park?
