Regarding the brief item “Butler school taxes due by Monday” (June 27, page 3), informing residents of the Butler School District that June 30 was the last day to pay these taxes at face value.

I found it most disturbing. While the city treasurer’s office collects these taxes for city residents only, said taxes are collected later in the year. I could visualize residents of the city spending the weekend looking through their households trying to find the misplaced tax card.

This error should not be placed on the clerks in the treasurer’s office since it is the responsibility of the current treasurer, Jeff Smith, to approve of all communications to the news media. If Mr. Smith would show up at his office during city working hours maybe these mistakes could be eliminated.
