IN BRIEF

NEW YORK — Verizon is boosting the upload speeds of nearly all its FiOS connections to match the download speeds, vastly shortening the time it takes for subscribers to send videos and back up their files online.

Starting today, all new subscribers will get “symmetrical” connections. The cheapest plan will deliver 25 megabits per second up and down, an increase from 15 megabits down and 5 megabits up.

Current subscribers will see their upload speeds raised over the coming months, product manager Fowler Abercrombie said. He expects that 95 percent of Verizon customers will see higher speeds. For the rest, fully symmetrical speeds may not be possible for technical reasons.

Walt Disney World has reached a tentative agreement with its largest union group that includes a minimum hourly rate of $10 for full-time workers starting in 2016.Disney made the deal with the Services Trade Council, a coalition of six unions covering 21,000 full-time workers, just minutes before its contract was to expire late Thursday night. That contract was extended to allow workers to vote on the new one Aug. 1.The agreement keeps in place the company's pension plan for new hires, union representatives said. Disney had sought to eliminate that and replace it with a 401(k) plan with a 3 percent match. The contract also would freeze weekly health insurance costs for employees in 2015.Costs could go up from there, but the contract would provide a cap.
