Man tried to rob Cranberry bank

CRANBERRY TWP — Township police are still searching for a man who attempted to rob the ESB Bank on Rochester Road Saturday morning but ran away before getting any money.

In a police release, the man is described as being about 6 feet tall with a “stocky build with brown or red hair.” He is a white man who wore a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a maroon baseball cap.

Officers have a surveillance photograph that provided “clear images” of the suspect as he leaves the bank.

Police were called to the bank about 10:30 a.m. when tellers said that a man approached bank employees and demanded cash.

A teller questioned the man about his demands before the suspect “repeated his demand for money and then abruptly fled on foot without obtaining money from the bank,” according to the release.

No weapon was seen by employees, and police couldn’t offer a description of his vehicle.

Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspect is urged to call police at 724-776-5180 or to e-mail tips@cranberrytownship.org.

The police did not return calls Monday or this morning.

An employee at ESB Bank referred questions to the company’s headquarters, while representatives there did not immediately return requests for comment.

The bank was open Monday.
