CRANBERRY TWP — A traffic signal malfunction caused significant traffic backups early this afternoon on Route 19.

Jeff Schueler, the township’s director of public safety, said the light at the intersection of Route 19 and Cranberry Square Drive went out shortly after 1 p.m.

The outage caused hundreds of vehicles in the multiple lanes to be stalled through a number of changes of the lights from green to red.

Employees with the traffic management center jumped on the problem, and the light was back in service after about 30 minutes.

Traffic resumed its normal pace shortly after.
