NORTH WASHINGTON — The North Washington Rodeo will begin at 8 p.m. Aug. 19 to 23, rain or shine, at the North Washington Rodeo Arena, 2225 Oneida Valley Road, Route 38.

New this year is cowgirls' breakaway roping. Other events include bareback bronc riding, calf roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, cowgirls' barrel racing, team roping and bull riding.

Admission at the gate is $14 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12. Advanced admission is $12 and $5, respectively.

PENN TWP — The newly renamed Succop Nature Park, formerly the Succop Conservancy, will celebrate its new moniker with three picnics and a croquet match:Picnics and Music in the Park, featuring live music and bring your own picnic, 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21, Sept. 17 and Oct. 16Croquet in the Park, an introduction to the game of croquet for the whole family — with extreme courses available for more advanced players, 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 28.For more information about the park at 185 W. HARMONY — Harmony Parks Board will present a free showing of movie “Shrek” Friday evening at Harmony's canoe launch at the west end of Jackson Street, weather permitting.The show will begin at 8:30 p.m. with cartoons. Those attending should take their own chairs or blankets. Glow-in-the-dark bracelets and necklaces will be given away.Free parking is available at the adjacent U.S. Liner lot at the west end of Mercer Street. BRADY TWP — A film commemorating the forgotten and extinct birds of North America will be shown Sept. 8 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528.The program will begin at 7 p.m., and refreshments will be served. Admission is free.The event is hosted by the Bartramian Audubon Society, the chapter of the National Audubon Society serving Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, and Venango counties.

FRANKLIN — The Rock In River Fest/PA Stone Skipping Championship will be held Aug. 23 at Riverfront Park.Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. Food will be available. PITTSBURGH — The Senator John Heinz History Center and Old Economy Village in Ambridge will have free admission Sept. 27 for Museum Day Live, an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine.
