Fatal crash caused by driver running red light

BUTLER TWP — Township police report the vehicle driven by the woman who died Monday morning in a two-car collision at the intersection of Route 68 and Eberhart Road ran a red light.

According to police, the car driven Sylvia Kuhn, 67, was northbound on Eberhart Road when it failed to stop for a red light, coming into the path of a car driven by Danielle Ziegler, 19, also of Butler, that was eastbound on Route 68.

“According to witnesses, Kuhn failed to stop at the red light,” Sgt. Nathan Teslik of township police said this morning.

Teslik said the witnesses also stated Kuhn was speeding.

He said there is no evidence Ziegler did anything wrong.

“There are no violations on the part of Ziegler,” Teslik said.

The crash occurred when Ziegler’s Honda Accord slammed into the driver’s side of Kuhn’s Oldsmobile Intrigue, which then veered right and up onto the lawn of the house at 398 Evans City Road, Route 68, about 6:45 a.m.

Kuhn was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ziegler was taken by Butler Ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. She was released later that day.

Butler Fire District 3 assisted at the scene.
