Andrew Russin

Andrew Russin, 95, of Butler passed away Saturday at his home.

He was born on March 16, 1919, in Lyndora to the late Wallace Russin and Julia Tretinik Russin.

Mr. Russin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant in World War II.

He worked at Armco Steel, retiring with 33 years of service.

Mr. Russin was a member of the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, where he was a member of the men's club. He was a member of VFW Post 249 and a previous member of the Associated Artists of Butler County. Mr. Russin started drawing at age 6. He attended the Norman Rockwell School in Westport, Conn., then went on to study at the Pittsburgh Academy of Fine Arts.

Mr. Russin enjoyed building models of submarines, old ships, cars and motorcycles, building more than 75 models. He was a history buff, especially the Revolutionary War period and Native Americans. Mr. Russin enjoyed feeding the animals in his backyard.

Mr. Russin is survived by his daughter, Michele Minto and her husband, Larry, of Wilmington, Del.; his sister, Margaret Swaney of Fairchance, and a wealth of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Duffer Russin, who he married on June 25, 1947, and who passed away on Jan. 23, 2011; his five brothers, Steve, Wallace, Nick, Paul and Michael Russin, and his three sisters, Ann Frenchak, Helen Taylor and Mary Orth.

Russin — Friends of Andrew Russin, who died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A Parastas service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler St., Lyndora, with the Rev. Leo Schlosser celebrating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of All Faiths Mausoleum at Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
