Ernest Norman McWithey

Ernest Norman McWithey, 90, of Zelienople, passed away Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford.

Born on May 29, 1924, in Zelienople, he was the son of the late Alfred and Harriet McWithey.

Ernie was a faithful and active member of St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople for 69 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and elder.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Ernie was a member of Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM and a lifetime member of the New Castle Lodge Consistory. During his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and gardening.

After many years of dedicated service, Ernie retired from Herman Pneumatic as an electrical engineer, but above all, he will be most remembered for his strong work ethic.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley Lutz McWithey, who he married on March 17, 1945; his two loving children, Virginia Smoke and her husband, Steven, of Cranberry Township and Bradley McWithey and his wife, Lorene, of Parma, Ohio; his five grandchildren, Shannon, Alicia and Heather, Jason and Ryan; his five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his 11 siblings.

McWithey— The McWithey family will welcome friends of Ernest Norman McWithey, who passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A Masonic service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.A funeral ceremony will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Reformed Church, 314-320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. James R. Bertoti officiating. Ernie will be laid to rest at St. Peter's Reformed Church Cemetery, Zelienople.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his honor in support of the St. Peter's Reformed Church, 314-320 E.
