Summit residents speak against natural gas processing plant

SUMMIT TWP — Township supervisors Wednesday heard residents who are opposed to a proposed natural gas processing station and continued the session to next month.

Supervisors said they wanted XTO Energy to bring more staff to fully explain the project and field residents’ questions.

“We want more specific answers to some of the questions,” said township solicitor Mike Gallagher.

About 45 people attended the hearing. Almost all of the residents who attended spoke out against the plant.

“Just don’t do it,” said resident Susan Bonefeste.

Resident Gary Cooper said that he lives right across from where the station would be. He said he was concerned about the pipeline pressure.

“I’m afraid,” Cooper said.

XTO, through its subsidiary company Mountain Gathering LLC, is seeking a conditional use permit to potentially construct a natural gas compressor station on more than 140 acres zoned for residential use off Herman Road.
