4 suspects linked to armed robbery

BUTLER TWP — Two men and two women were arrested this week in connection with the armed robbery of a sandwich shop this month.

The four suspects — Franklin V. Zurzolo, 24, and Kellie L. Horne, 30, both of Butler; and Chester E. Dietrich, 25, and Amanda S. Edgington, 25, both homeless — are being held in the Butler County Prison.

Butler Township police said Zurzolo, armed with a shotgun, and Horne, armed with a knife, on Aug. 11 entered the Hoagie Shop on New Castle Road and ordered employees to the floor before taking off with $200.

Zurzolo and Horne are both charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery, theft and receiving stolen property.

Dietrich and Edgington, who allegedly assisted in the holdup, are both charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police said Dietrich and Edgington agreed to give Zurzolo and Horne a ride to a store in the Butler Commons shopping plaza the night of Aug. 11, according to court documents.

While driving on New Castle Road, the police complaint said, it became apparent to Edgington and Dietrich that Zurzolo and Horne were planning to do a robbery, as the duo had a conversation about covering their faces and not getting caught.

Dietrich told investigators that once they were in the area of the Hoagie Shop, across from the Point Plaza, Zurzolo told them to stop the car because he needed to get a shirt from the trunk.

However, Zurzolo pulled a shotgun from the trunk. The gun was provided by Edgington's father for protection.

Dietrich told Zurzolo he could use the gun, but that he wouldn't give him any shells, according to court documents.

Zurzolo and Horne left on foot while Dietrich and Edgington drove around until Zurzolo called them asking that they be picked up west of the shop.

At that time Zurzolo and Horne got into the vehicle with the gun and a bag containing $200 cash. Zurzolo was upset he did not get as much as when he previously burglarized the shop, according to court documents.

An unrelated traffic stop by state police Tuesday night led to the arrests of Zurzolo, Dietrich and Edgington. Horne was arrested Wednesday.

Zurzolo and Horne are in the county prison on $50,000 bail each. Dietrich and Edgington are jailed on $25,000 bail each.

The holdup was the third crime in three months at the Hoagie Shop.

The same store was burglarized May 9 and July 26.

Township Police Chief John Hays said some of the same defendants in the robbery are also suspects in the burglaries. He would not elaborate.

Eagle staff writer Jim Smith contributed to this report.
