Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic began its PIAA Class A title defense in a big way.

Jerome Turner scored on runs of 6, 9, 3 and 1 and, after a sluggish start, the Trojans rolled to a 63-19 road win over Northgate Friday night.

P.J. Fulmore got Cardinal Wuerl on the board with a 13-yard run and then the Trojans tacked on a safety for an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.

Cardinal Wuerl took a 28-7 lead into the half thanks to two Turner TD runs and a 20-yard pass from Adam Sharlow to Darian Mercuria.

Northgate cut the lead to 28-13 on a 30-yard hook-up from Johnny Camello to Romello Snyder, but the Trojans answered on the third touchdown run by Turner.

The Trojans closed the game with a 28-straight points

Turner score his fourth TD, Eric Timbers rumbled 44 yards for a touchdown on a fumble recovery, Mario Latronica scored on a 14-yard run and Camden Laconi found the endzone on a 4-yard run.

Dugan Gallagher capped a 153-yard rushing night with a 4-yard touchdown run with 5:37 remaining in the game to lift Union to a season-opening win over Keystone.Gallagher put the Golden Knights on top 8-0 with a 26-yard touchdown reception from Lane Cicciarelli late in the second quarter.Keystone tied the score early in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard run by Jake Weaver.

Grove City stormed out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on TD runs by Jesse Hodge and Jared Graham, but the Eagles had no answer for Greyhounds' running back Jake Sotter.Sotter rumbled for 162 yards on 13 carries and scored on a 4-yard run and caught a 16-yard TD pass from Cody Llewellyn.Graham led the Eagles with 80 yards rushing on 14 carries.

The Falcons were manhandled by the Bobcats, who led 20-0 after one quarter.Anthony Painter paced A-C Valley's offense with 37 yards on five carries. Brady Terwilliger added four tackles, including a sack on defense.
