Seneca Valley didn't let a late goal by North Allegheny shake it.

The Raiders' boys soccer team held on for the last 15 minutes to earn a 2-1 win in their Section 2-AAA opener.

Connor McCandless put Seneca Valley (3-0, 1-0) ahead 2-0 midway through the second half.

Matt Saluga scored the Raiders' first goal.

Slippery Rock 5, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 0 — Matt Dempsey scored twice to help the Rockets win on the road.

Ben Magliocca, Mark Cessar and Josh Jones also scored for Slippery Rock (1-0).

Sean Beeching made three saves for Slippery Rock, which handed the Trojans (0-3) their third straight loss.

Knoch 2, Freeport 0 — Ben Andrews and Kris Matus each scored goals to lead the Knights (2-1, 1-0).

Mars 3, Deer Lakes 0 — Dale Glavin recorded a shutout in goal to lift the Planets.

Ian McNany scored two goals and Nick Cimini also scored for Mars.

Slippery Rock had plenty of offense. Mercyhurst Prep had just a little bit more.The Rockets dropped their season-opening game to the Lakers, 5-4.Jenny Dudak, Bailey Boyd, Lilly Weitzel and Alaina McDermott scored for Slippery Rock. Molly Joyce had two assists.

Cassie McKernan, Cassie Berteotti and Hannah Both each had nine kills as Mars held off Butler 25-20, 17-25, 25-20, 25-27, 15-10.Maria Nicassio added eight kills and Julia Zimmer had 36 assists and five aces for the Planets.Alecia Zika also had 21 digs for Mars.No individual stats for Butler were available.Franklin 3, Grove City 2 — Grove City girls volleyball nearly rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but dropped a five-set match 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-12, 6-15 to Franklin.Jordyn Wyllie led the Eagles with 10 kills, while Caral Cinton contributed five.Hannah Santom handed out 22 assists, while Belle Chiodo and Adrianna Adams each had 12 service points.Knoch 3, Burrell 0 — Katie Bozzo had 10 kills and 10 assists and Kiley Hajek added 11 kills, seven block and nine service points to lead the Knights to a 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 win.Alley Kerkan added 13 service points for Knoch (1-0).
