Lauster helps SR steal win on road

Scores TD with 15 seconds left, seals 14-7 win

GREENVILLE — Travis Lauster made the right moves when Slippery Rock's football team needed him the most.

Lauster broke a tackle with 15.6 seconds remaining and ran eight yards to the endzone to give the Rockets a 14-7 win Friday night at Greenville.

“It was just a team effort,” said Lauster, who finished with 40 yards rushing. “When the time came, we executed. That's it. Our line did a great job at the end of the game. We battled all four quarters and were able to get it done in the end.”

Slippery Rock (2-0) had 215 total yards against the Trojans.

Greenville put some dents in Slippery Rock's rushing attack.

The Trojans forced Lauster to fumble inside the their 10-yard line.

Greenville junior cornerback Hunter Hause scooped it up and ran 92 yards for a score, giving the Trojans a 7-0 lead with 7 minutes, 33 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Slippery Rock quarterback Jake Whitmer, who scored on a 1-yard rush to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter, was 3 for 8 passing attempts, totaling 56 passing yards.

All three of Whitmer's completions were caught by senior wide receiver Brady Kadlubek.

“We knew coming into the region that the games would be like this,” Slippery Rock head coach Brendan Hathaway said. “Our triple option wasn't working the way it was supposed to tonight, and Greenville did a great job at making that happen. With the triple option happening you don't know who's getting the job on the field, but our coaches upstairs made the right play call in the end.”

The Trojans gained 86 total yards, including 84 rushing.

Junior quarterback Gage Gladysz completed 2 of 5 passing attempts for two yards, and rushed for negative one yards on 11 carries.

“I thought it was difficult because they were almost always in plus field position and were almost always in minus field position, so eventually your defense is going to crack,” Greenville head coach Brian Herrick said. “I think it all came down to special teams. We just didn't tackle well and every time we had a good punt return we had a penalty.”
