Moniteau wins, stays perfect

Warriors 3-0 after 48-12 win over Port Allegany

CHERRY TWP — Moniteau launched its way past Port Allegany, mounting a total of 619 rushing yards en route to a 48-12 football victory Friday night.

The Warriors moved to 3-0 for the first time since 2011.

“We just built on our momentum from early in the game,” Moniteau coach Wade Vogan said. “The offensive line really came around, and we won the battle of the trenches. Our running backs had a couple hundred yards, and our quarterback had a hundred yards. It was just a complete team effort today.”

The Warriors showed their dominance in the running game early on, and were able to keep that momentum throughout the remainder of the contest. Moniteau quarterback Cody Skiver broke the scoreless tie with 4:02 remaining in the first quarter with a 16-yard touchdown run.

The Warriors would add another six points just moments later when senior Josh McBride broke free for a 25-yard scoring run, sending Moniteau into the second quarter with a 13-0 lead.

The score would remain the same through the second quarter and early on in the third quarter until junior Wyatt Ifft punched in a three-yard touchdown run, putting Moniteau up 19-0 with 9:37 left in the third.

After forcing an interception from Port Allegany quarterback Tre Garzel, the Warriors scored another touchdown on a nine- yard run from Skiver.

Port Allegany was able to answer right back as junior Jordan Seefeldt broke free for an 87-yard kick return for a touchdown, ending the Warrior bid for a shutout.

The Warriors were able to put the game away in the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points. McBride showed off his speed for a 42-yard touchdown run with 10:25 left in the game, and Ifft was able to push his across the goal line just a minute later for his second touchdown.

“We just came out and played our butts off,” Skiver said. “It was just a great win. Our school came out to support us and it was great to win. It's nice to get things done and sit back a quarter watching some of the JV kids get some time in because they deserve it and work hard in practice, too.”

“Playing a double A team, we just asked our kids to come down and play hard,” Gators head coach Justin Bienkowski said. “We were better than we were a week ago, so hats off to our kids. Moniteau is a very talented team. Coach Vogan is doing an incredible job with them and I wish them the best.”
