CLARION — Karns City senior Logan Moroney has been named D9Sports.com District 9 Football Player of the week. Moroney caught eight passes for 122 yards, scored on a 4-yard run and kicked a 27-yard field goal in the Gremlins’ 16-6 win over Clarion.

GREENVILLE — Seneca Valley graduate and Grove City College senior men’s soccer player George DeAugustino has been named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. A four-year starting defender for GCC, DeAugustino received the honor after leading the Wolverines to shutouts of Oberlin and Heidelberg on the road. Grove City’s team goals against average of 1.21 ranks second in the PAC.

The Slippery Rock University football team moved up three spots in the D2football.com rankings following a 46-17 win over Millersville. SRU is one of five teams — along with No. 10 West Chester, No. 11 Shepherd (W.Va.), No. 14 Bloomsburg and No. 16 Winston-Salem State (N.C.) — from Super Region 1 to appear in the top 25.

GROVE CITY — A-C Valley graduate Meredith Snyder led the Penn State Behrend volleyball team with nine kills and four blocks in a 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 17-25 loss to Grove City College Wednesday. Snyder, a sophomore, is second on the team with 105 kills this season.

NEW YORK — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and chief assistant Troy Vincent were told by 11 former players that the league must act immediately when someone is accused of domestic violence.At a 3 1/2-hour meeting to discuss ways to improve the league's personal conduct policy, the former players also said teams must be held accountable when players misbehave.At the meeting were Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, plus Matt Birk, Eddie Mason, Patrick Kerney, Willie McGinest, Roman Oben, Marty Lyons, Charles Way, Tony Paige, Scott Turner and Robert Porcher. More weekly meetings are planned among league officials and former players, current players and team owners.

LOS ANGELES — The wife and sons of former San Diego Chargers defensive back Paul Oliver sued the NFL for wrongful death, blaming sports-related concussions for his suicide last year.The suit was filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court against the league, the Chargers, the New Orleans Saints and the corporations that own several helmet manufacturers. It also alleges fraud and negligence.
