ALLISON PARK — Slippery Rock High School graduate and Grove City College senior golfer Brian Giesler earned medalist honors with a 71 as the Wolverines won the La Roche College Invitational Tuesday.

The event was held at Wildwood Golf Club.

Mars graduate and fellow GCC senior Christian Locher tied for second in the 58-golfer field with a 75. GCC freshman and Butler resident Anthony Smaldino tied for 15th with an 83.

Grove City shot a 318 to edge St. Vincent College by two strokes for the team title.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Vikings guard Brandon Fusco, a Seneca Valley and Slippery Rock University graduate, is out for the season with a pectoral muscle injury.Fusco was injured in Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints.

GROVE CITY — Mars graduate and Grove City College senior Christian Locher has been named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.Locher tied for first at the Penn State Behrend Invitational with a 75 on Monday before taking second at the La Roche Invitational with the same score Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Ashley Carter, who plays for the pro softball team the Pennsylvania Rebellion and graduated from Division I California State Fullerton, will join SRU's softball staff as an assistant coach.Carter graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 2013 and graduated as the Titans' fourth-high leader in triples with nine.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — There were discussions of a settlement earlier this year between representatives for Florida State QB Jameis Winston and the woman who said he sexually assaulted her.Attorneys for both sides strongly disagree, however, on the details of the talks and who initiated them.David Cornwell, an attorney who advises the Winston family, said in a Sept. 23 letter to Florida State obtained by The Associated Press that the woman's former lawyer Patricia Carroll demanded $7 million in February to settle her potential claim against Winston, the university and the Tallahassee Police Department.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns and point guard Eric Bledsoe have reached agreement on a five-year, $70 million contract, capping a long, sometimes-tense negotiation to keep him in the desert.The deal is considerably more than the four-year, $48 million the Suns initially offered.

STANFORD, Calif. — Johnny Dawkins made a point last season not to fret about his future and just coach Stanford back into a winner and an NCAA tournament team.The rest took care of itself, and Dawkins was rewarded with a contract extension. Years and terms were not disclosed.
