Carlsson's 74 keys BC3 golf

Knoch graduate Stefan Carlsson shot a 2-over par 74 to help the Butler County Community College men’s golf team beat CCAC North 312-332 at Pittsburgh North Golf Course.

Steve Adametz (Mars) also shot a 78 for the Pioneers, while Chris Kier (Knoch) and Jayce Corklin each shot 80s.

Cross CountryFour runners on the Slippery Rock University men’s cross country team placed in the top 20 to help The Rock win the Cathcart Invitational Saturday in Salisbury, Md.Jeremy Parsons was SRU’s top finisher, placing fourth with a time of 24 minutes, 18.4 seconds.Jaron Martin (eighth), Tyler Melius (13th) and Theo Reynolds (20th) also finished in the top 20 to help The Rock score a tournament best 68 points.On the women’s side, The Rock finished with 61 points to place second behind Christopher Newport (Va.) University.Jenny Picot placed second for SRU in 22:27.4.

Field hockeyMichelle Couch tallied a goal off a penalty shot in the 70th minute to help SRU upset fifth-ranked East Stroudsburg 2-1 Sunday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.The Rock (4-4, 2-2) snapped a 22-game losing streak to the Warriors (4-3, 3-2).

FootballGrove City College rolled up some yardage during its Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener Saturday at Chuck Noll Field against St. Vincent College.The Wolverines just couldn’t overcome an early deficit in a 31-14 loss. Grove City had 314 yards of total offense.St. Vincent (2-2, 2-0) built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before Grove City (0-3, 0-1) got on the board. David Folkmire caught an 11-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 10-7.Grove City closed the deficit to 17-14 in the fourth quarter, but St. Vincent recovered a fumbled punt and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown to seal the win.Folkmire caught a career-high eight passes for 75 yards.

Mens soccerPatrick Boyland scored the game-winning goal six minutes into the second half to help SRU beat Shippensburg 2-1 Saturday at James Egli Field.Stephen Donnelly also scored for The Rock (4-3, 2-1).

VolleyballKristy Lake and Leah Jones both had career-high marks in kills to help Slippery Rock University beat Mercyhurst 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23, 15-6.The wins moves The Rock (11-3, 5-4) into a four-way tie for second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division.Kristy Lake finished with 25 kills, while Leah Jones added 22.
