Olszak's 52 wins sets KC record

Karns City goalie David Olszak's only hurdle to a school record was Forest Area.

Olszak put out the Fires' offense in a 5-0 win for the Gremlins' boys soccer team.

The win gave Olszak his 52nd, breaking the school record set by Josh Grenniger in 2009.

Spenser Myers and Noah Pollock both scored twice for the Gremlins. Tyler Pollock also added a goal.

Knoch 8, Kittanning 0 — Ben Andrews and Val Panger both scored twice to help the Knights win a Section 2-AA match.

Devin Sherman, Jonmichael Lambert, Caleb Robb and Josh Gizienski also scored for the Knights (9-3, 7-2).

Freeport 13, West Shamokin 0 — Dylan Kersten, Kevin Lynch and Bryce Handy also scored twice to help the Yellowjackets (7-5, 5-5) win big in Section 2-AA.

Mars 3, Shady Side Academy 2 — Kyle Nymberg and Randy Vogel scored second-half goals as the Planets remained unbeaten. Ian McNanny scored in the first half for Mars off a Noah Hudac pass.

Dale Glavin made several key plays in goal during the win.

Girls soccer

Erin Posey scored with 9 minutes, 28 seconds remaining in the first half to help the Mars girls soccer team win a non-conference game against Norwin 1-0 Saturday at the Mars Athletic Complex.

The Planets improved to 10-1 with the win.

Hickory 2, Karns City 1 — Emily LoPresti converted a penalty kick, but it wasn't enough to help the Gremlins beat the Hornets.

Cross country

Mars boys won the Class AA championship and the Planet girls finished second at the 50th annual McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, N.Y.

There were almost 250 schools competing in the event from all over the United States, Canada and Mexico. Approximately 6,000 runners participated.
