SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Storm Harbor Equestrian Center will host its eighth Sunset Serenade at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

The theme “Rockin' Through the Ages” reflects the university's 125th anniversary.

The event will raise funds to build the endowment, expand services and provide scholarship assistance to SRU students and riders who use the equestrian center.

The evening will offer both live and silent auctions, music by the bluegrass band Wellstrung, cocktails and culinary food stations.

Last year's event raised a record $85,000 from sponsorships, tickets and auction sales.

Also, the center received a $500,000 pledge from an SRU alumna and her husband that was part of a matching gift challenge with some of the 350 guests in attendance committing an additional $100,000.

Storm Harbor's mission is to provide multidisciplinary professional preparation and research opportunities to university students through the equine-assisted activities for individuals with disabilities.
