Butler girls soccer still in playoff hunt

Abby Boyle and Zoe Gillan each scored goals as the Butler girls soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win over North Hills Monday.

The Golden Tornado (8-7, 7-4) need a win over undefeated Seneca Valley or a loss by North Allegheny vs. North Hills Wednesday to earn a playoff spot.

Slippery Rock 7, Meadville 1 — Molly Joyce scored three goals as the Rockets rolled in this region battle.

Jenny Dudek added a pair of goals and Skyler Hinchberger and Elena McDermott also found the net for Slippery Rock (8-5, 4-2).

A tough second period hurt Seneca Valley in its 6-2 season-opening loss against Canon-McMillan at the RMU Island Sports Complex.After a scoreless first period, the Big Macs (1-0) scored the game's first four goals. Chris Lipnicky and Sam Johnson both scored in the third period for the Raiders to cut the score to 4-2.Alyssa Peterson made 32 saves in net for Seneca Valley.Quaker Valley 4, Freeport 1 — Tanner Hill scored the Yellowjackets only goal in a season-opening loss.
