Mars boys still perfect in 2014

Planets 16-0 after beating Freeport

Kyle Nymberg scored three goals as the Mars boys soccer team remained undefeated with a 5-3 win over Freeport Tuesday night.

Andrew Diefenbacher and Ian McNany also scored for the Planets (16-0, 13-0).

Robbie Reichenbaugh, Isaac Bigenho and Nikita Rylow scored for the Yellowjackets (8-7, 6-7).

Butler 2, North Hills 0 — The Golden Tornado took a big step toward a second-consecutive WPIAL playoff appearance as Anthony Werth scored both goals in the win.

Werth has now scored 10 goals in the last four games for Butler (9-4-2, 6-4-1), which moved into third place in the section.

The top three make the playoffs.

Knoch 2, Shady Side Academy 1 — Ben Andrews scored both goals for the Knights (11-4, 9-3).

Karns City 9, Keystone 0 — Tyler Pollock and Noah Pollock both registered two goals for the Gremlins (11-2-1).

Seneca Valley 5, Hampton 0 — The Raiders' win, coupled with North Allegheny's loss to Shaler, clinches the Section 2-AAA title for Seneca (11-2, 9-1).

Matt Saluga found the net twice while Connor McCandless, Adam Mascio and T.J. Turley each scored once for the Raiders.

Bryce Benjamin earned the shutout.

Grace Ward had 30 assists, nine service points and three blocks as Freeport won a big road clash with Obama Academy, 25-14, 25-12, 25-20.Jess Kelley added eight kills and nine blocks, Zoe Pawlak had seven kills, 13 service points and seven aces and Morgan Ruppersberger added nine kills and three blocks for the Yellowjackets (13-0, 9-0).Knoch 3, Valley 0 — Kiley Hajek had 18 service points and five kills as Knoch swept Valley 25-9, 25-11, 25-8.Lexie Graham added nine service points and six kills and Julie Zilka 10 service points for the Knights.North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — Paige Lambermont had nine kills, but the Golden Tornado lost a tough three-set match, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.Baylee Verner, Alyssa DiPippa and Rachel Rebmann each added seven kills for Butler.Conneaut 3, Grove City 0 — Jordyn Wyllie had 14 kills and five blocks, but the Eagles fell 25-17, 25-18, 25-15.Hannah Santom added 11 assists for Grove City.Cranberry 3, Union 0 — Eiley McGregor had four kills in the Damsels' 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 loss.Lexey Shick and Kali Flick each added two aces.
