Unbeaten Freeport volleyball team clinches section

Matt Drambel followed up on a rebound of a Matt Saluga shot and scored the game-winning goal in the first overtime of Seneca Valley's 3-2 boys soccer win over Butler Thursday night.

Saluga and Griffin Mathew also scored goals for the Raiders (12-2, 10-1). Butler fell to 9-5-2, 6-5-1.

GolfThe Freeport golf team shot a 443 to place sixth at the WPIAL Class AA team finals Thursday at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course.Audrey Clawson led the Yellowjackets with an 8-over par 80.Justin Hildebrand (89), Dylan Clinton (90), Cory Bird (92) and Brendan Aber (92) also carded scores for Freeport.Sewickley Academy won with a 402.

Girls SoccerEmily LoPresti scored twice to help Karns City blank Slippery Rock 5-0 in a non-conference game.Megan McCartney, Brianna Brusamonti and Abby Wolfe also scored for the Gremlins (11-1).

Girls VolleyballBaylee Verner had a team-high eight kills as Butler swept North Hills in a Section 3-AAA match 25-10, 25-19, 25-17.Ronni Guiney also had five kills for the Golden Tornado, while Rachel Rebmann added six aces.Freeport 3, Deer Lakes 0 — The Yellowjackets wrapped up the Section 4-AA crown with a 25-17, 25-15, 15-18 win over the Lancers.Zoe Pawlak had 14 kills and seven blocks, Jessica Kelly 17 service points, six blocks and six kills and Grace Ward had 24 assists, 10 service points and three kills for Freeport (14-0, 9-0).Knoch 3, Avonworth 1 — Kiley Hajeck led the Knights with 16 kills in a 24-26, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 non-section win. Katie Bozzo also had 11 kills and Julie Zilka had 14 service points.Union 3, Moniteau 0 — The Damsels swept the Warriors 25-18, 15-20, 25-16.Emilee Rankin led the Damsel with 17 assists. Lexey Shick added 10 digs for Union, while Kali Flick and Taylor Adams each had seven kills.A-C Valley 3, Redbank Valley 1 — Morgan Cratty had a career night, recording 12 service points, 19 digs, 19 kills and three blocks in the Falcons' 25-27, 25-16, 26-24, 25-20 win over the Bulldogs.Melane Lewis also handed out 23 assists for A-C Valley (9-2), while Sadie Longo added 10 kills.
