Mars hockey nets 6-1 victory

Six different players scored for Mars as it rolled to a 6-1 Class A hockey win over Freeport Thursday at the Belmont Ice Complex.

Charles Osborne picked up four assists for the Planets (2-1). Ian Houk-Graves, Kyle Thomas, Owen Vasbinder, Paul Maust, Beau Heakins and Keaton Hanna scored for Mars.

Nick Rusak scored for Freeport (1-2.)

Seneca Valley 4, Central Catholic 2 — The Raiders scored twice in the third period to upend the Vikings in a Class AAA game at Warrendale BladeRunners.

Shane Galis and Alexander Crilley both scored in the third period to break the deadlock for Seneca Valley (2-1). Crilley also scored in the first period, while Connor Williams added a goal for the Raiders. Alyssa Peterson earned the win in net, stopping 29 shots.

Jake Porter finished fourth in 17 minutes, 43 seconds at the Tri-State Coaches Association meet to help the Mars boys finish second with a team score of 97.Uniontown won the meet with a team score of 77. Zach Hunkele also finished 16th for the Planets, while Evan Deddo came in 20th, Lucas Johansson 23rd and Caleb Keys 27th.

Jessica Kelly had 22 service points, seven assists and 10 kills in Freeport's 25-7, 25-5, 25-7 Section 4-AA win.Lydia Gasienski recorded 21 service points and four kills for the Yellowjackets (17-0, 12-0). Angel Hewitt (seven kills) and Cari Huth (two kills, eight digs) also contributed for Freeport.A-C Valley 3, Karns City 2 — The Falcons edged out the Gremlins 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 17-25, 15-13 despite trailing by two points three times in the fifth set.Mogan Cratty led A-C Valley (11-2) with 14 service points, 14 digs, 11 kills and three blocks.Melanie Lewis (14 service points, 17 assists), Sadie Longo (17 digs, 15 kills, three blocks) and Alyssa Babcock (10 dig, 14 assists) also had big nights for the Falcons.A-C Valley also won the JV match 26-24, 25-21.Union 3, Clarion-Limestone 2 — Emilee Rankin handed out 12 assists to help the Damsels rally from a two-set deficit to beat the Lions 23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-11.Lexey Shick added 15 digs.Hickory 3, Grove City 1 — The Hornets bested the Eagles 26-28, 25-12, 25-22, 25-9.Jordyn Wyllie led Grove City with 15 kills.Belle Chiodo and Adrianna Adams each had nine service points.Slippery Rock 3, Laurel 2 — The Rockets (5-7, 2-5) won their Senior Night match Wednesday by scores of 29-27, 25-23, 22-25, 21-25, 15--12. Brooklyn Walsh had nine kills, Kortney Schaum 20 digs, Ellie Mularski three aces.Slippery Rock plays at A-C Valley Monday.Knoch 3, Deer Lakes 0 — The Knights (13-4, 10-2) received strong games from Katie Bozzo (nine kills, 12 service points) and Kiley Hajek (eight kills) in a 25-23, 25-14, 25-20 win.

Karns City improved to 16-1 overall with a 9-0 victory over visiting Punxsutawney.Emily LoPresti scored four times and Brittany Coyle twice.Megan McCartney, LeErin Jones and Brianna Brusamonti each added one goal for KC.
