Fire damages, closes Trader Horn on Rt. 422

FRANKLIN TWP — Trader Horn on Route 422 is closed after being hit by a fire Saturday morning.

Prospect Fire Chief Frank Wilson said the fire started in a front corner of the building before 10 a.m. and spread up a wall and back the second floor and roof.

Wilson said most of the merchandise on the first floor was not badly damaged by the flames, but said there was some water damage.

Wilson said the fire was started by an electrical problem, but the exact cause was not immediately clear.

Pat Green, the operations manager of the store, said the upstairs was used for storage. He did not know the cause of the fire, nor did he have an estimate on the value of the damage.

“There’s a lot of inventory in there,” Green said.

Wilson estimated the damage at more than $50,000, but said the building was repairable.

Wilson said about 50 firefighters responded to the scene.
