Penn Hills topples Seneca Valley

Indians rush for 402 yards, best Raiders 55-28

PENN HILLS — Just when Seneca Valley had fought its way back into Friday night's non-conference game at Penn Hills, Indians' quarterback Billy Kisner delivered a demoralizing blow.

The Raiders had cut their deficit to 21-13 when Richard Proper blocked a Penn Hills punt and teammate Richard Buletko recovered in the end zone for a touchdown midway through the second quarter.

The Indians faced a 3rd-and-3 from their own 27 on the ensuing drive. Kisner took the shotgun snap, faked a handoff and raced through the Raiders' defense for a 73-yard touchdown run.

Seneca Valley (1-7) never threatened the lead again in a 55-28 loss at Yuhas-McGinley Stadium.

The Indians (6-2) rushed for 402 yards and six touchdowns in the game.

“It's one thing to scheme against their offense (in practice),” said Seneca coach Don Holl. “It's another thing to line up across from it. They have some great athletes.”

Kisner put up 175 of his team's rushing yards. Te'Shan Campbell scored twice on the ground and Isaiah Jones ran for 77 yards and a touchdown on just three carries.

“If our running game is working and we're not turning the ball over, we can be tough to beat,” said Penn Hills coach John Peterman. “I was concerned about this game, with as much as they (Raiders) throw the ball and they are well-coached. They are just snake-bitten right now.”

Penn Hills dominated the first quarter with touchdown runs from Kisner (14 yards), Jones (70) and Campbell (13).

But the Raiders mounted an 8-play, 72-yard drive which Mason Dehart ended with a 3-yard scoring run to make it 21-7 with 7:29 left in the second quarter.

The Indians then went three-and-out, forcing the punt from Noah Dipko that was blocked by Proper.

“We just weren't able to keep that momentum going,” said Holl. “But we battled.”

Penn Hills scored once more before halftime for a 35-13 lead. The lead swelled to 49-13 in the third period before T.J. Holl connected with Eric Mrkonja on a 59-yard touchdown pass.

Chad Izenas later caught a 16-yard scoring toss from Holl, the Raiders' final score of the game.
