Thomas M. Steighner Funeral Home

As it begins its 43rd year in funeral service, the Thomas M. Steighner Funeral Home in Chicora thanks all families it has been privileged to serve and eagerly looks forward to the future.

The Steighners’ story began 43 years ago when Tom and Rose Steighner purchased the Clarence W. Vensel Funeral Home.

Tom Steighner, the owner and operator of Steighner Funeral Home, entered the funeral profession in 1963 following his graduation from Butler High School. He continued his education at Point Park University in Pittsburgh and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1966 and became licensed in 1967.

As a licensed funeral director, he was employed for several years at a Pittsburgh funeral home. He then returned to Butler County to become the first chief deputy coroner for William F. Young Jr. before purchasing the funeral home.

Active in the Chicora community, Tom served on the Chicora Borough Council as mayor for 30 Years. Tom is a lifetime member of the Chicora Fire Department and member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, where he currently serves on the church financial council.

Tom and Rose’s daughter, Tammy Rose Steighner, is a licensed funeral director and plans to carry on the family business. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Carlow University in Pittsburgh in 1986.

She attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and graduated in 1989 and became a licensed funeral director in 1990. She received her Master of Science Degree in 2010 from the University of Phoenix.

Tammy is a doctoral candidate at Capella University.

Realizing the economic situation of today, we at Steighner Funeral Home have made arrangements to help meet the needs of families. Tom holds a Pennsylvania Life Insurance License, giving added protection to the funeral home’s paid pre-need funeral contracts.

The Steighners are specially trained to help families design meaningful funerals that truly represent lives well-lived. We strive to provide families a homey, not-overly-commercial environment, kindness, courtesy and the respect families truly deserve.
